Color

"Words like ‘gloomy’, ‘drab’, and ‘glittering’ each bring to mind a general climate of colors, a palette of relationships.” (p. 81)


  "Color" is a word that always attract me. I love to study the part of color matching. In my mind, color matching makes the world beautiful and vivid. This is the most important part in our daily life. All the things we use have a variety of different colors or color combinations. 

  "The muted neutral hues allow the forms to gently commingle, while contrasting hues and values break the elements apart." (81) For me, I like to combine the analogous colors. Like this picture.


  You can see this picture have lots of pair of paper. Each pair of paper's color are similar. Using the orange one on the right as an example. There are yellow, orange, white, brown. And it makes that picture more integrated.


  And in this picture we can see the main color is bean paste Red with some analogous color: white, pink, and few black. 

  This color combination is one of my favorite. I really like combining pink and blue. It gives me a dreamy feeling. Although blue is a cool color and pink is a warm color. It combines very good in this picture. It doesn't look sweet and greasy. But if the whole picture are pink, it looks sweeter and that is not what I like. 


  In this picture we also can learn some about color combination. I really like each of this room's color. Different color system gives different visual effect. The left and right rooms give me a feeling of happiness. And the middle two rooms give me a feeling of minimalism. I believe that in these rooms, you can find the reason why I like same color system. 


  "Neutral earth tones combine to make a quiet overall patter while a palette with strong contrasts of value and hue yields a more linear effect." (80) Like all the pictures above. Some similar color make a quiet, simple, and comfortable environment. And the strong contrasts between colors yields stronger visual impact.

  “Grids function throughout society.” (p. 187)    Pixel art is interesting. There is a game named "Minecraft" which is made by pixel art. In our lives, we can see a lot of things made by pixels. Like the QR code. And it used the grid to finish a round thing. In my opinion, all living creatures are composed of round things. But we can clearly see the square grid and we also can see the images. That's so funny! Using eyes as an example! We can see the facial expression on Pikachu's face. The right eye was painted by using four little grids and it looks like a round eye. Figure/Ground

“Building on memory and experience, the brain fills in gaps and filters out extraneous data.” (99) What I'm interested in this chapter is the figure inside of figure. When I saw the figure inside of figure first, I'm really surprising about that. I thought that was amazing.  In this picture, the question is "what did you see at first sight in this picture? A dancing woman with dress, two people are kissing, or nothing." Right, it is the test for psychology. I always love to do such tests. Actually, the reason why I like this kind of picture is that it is not only just a picture, but also it is a tool that can help psychologists to get more information from others. For example, just talk about this picture, answering the question I said in the first sentence. And here is the result. Diagram

  “Diagrams allow us to see relationships that would not come forward in a straight list of numbers or a verbal description.” (p. 215)   The Diagram usually shown as a chart. And when I think about the chart, something appears in my mind is cubic function, which is the function that can make a heart.  It's interesting for couples to use this to say love, right? I'm also really interested at the chart trends by using maps. It is a really useful and interesting way to draw a website trend. It is true that I prefer to read diagram than a paper of reading. Thinking another way, if that website trends chart was printed by a whole page of reading, do you want to read it? And the baby books were always designed by using beautiful and interesting pictures and colorful words. We can know that It's a good way to attract babies.
